The Gruffalo is heading to Meadowhall this weekend as the Sheffield shopping centre celebrates the arrival of the first new Gruffalo story in more than 20 years.

Gruffalo Granny, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, reunites the creators of one of Britain’s best-loved children’s characters for a new adventure published by Macmillan Children’s Books.

Families who want to discover the Gruffalo’s long-awaited new adventure at home can buy Gruffalo Granny from Waterstones in store or online here.

To mark its arrival, Meadowhall has teamed up with the National Literacy Trust for two days of free Gruffalo-themed family activities this Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13.

Storytelling sessions featuring Gruffalo Granny and drawing workshops will run hourly from 10am until 2pm in The Gallery.

Young fans can also meet the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo’s Child at hourly intervals between 11am and 3pm. Meet-and-greets will take place at Meadowhall’s Main Entrance on Saturday and in The Gallery, outside Next, on Sunday.

All sessions are free and available on a first come, first served basis.

Waterstones at Meadowhall is joining the celebrations with a Gruffalo hunt and colouring activities running across the weekend.

The event forms part of Meadowhall’s partnership with the National Literacy Trust and its work to encourage children to discover the enjoyment of reading.
