Historic village pub near Knaresborough named among UK's 100 best pubs 🍻
A country pub near Knaresborough has been recognised as one of the best in the country after earning a place in the prestigious Good Food Guide's 100 Best Pubs 2026.

The General Tarleton in Ferrensby has been ranked 55th in this year's national list, which celebrates Britain's finest pubs for outstanding food, hospitality and community spirit.
The accolade comes just over a year after the historic 18th-century coaching inn reopened following an extensive refurbishment led by Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks and hospitality group Jeopardy Hospitality.
Since reopening, the village pub has quickly established itself as one of the region's leading food destinations while remaining true to its traditional roots as a welcoming local.
Announcing this year's list, Good Food Guide owner Adam Hyman said: "While our industry continues to adapt to the new norm of what running a hospitality business looks like in Britain, our Best Pubs list once again shows that some of the best food and hospitality can be found in pubs."
The annual guide is produced in partnership with Timothy Taylor's Landlord, with marketing director Louise McLaughlin adding: "The Good Food Guide's 100 Best Pubs celebrates everything that's great about the British pub - warm hospitality, quality food and drink, character, and a genuine connection to local communities.
"These are the kinds of pubs Timothy Taylor's is proud to champion, and we're delighted to help shine a light on the publicans, their teams, and the loyal regulars who keep this important part of our culture thriving.
“Congratulations to all of this year's winners."
Located on the outskirts of Knaresborough, The General Tarleton has earned widespread praise since reopening, with its seasonal menu showcasing Yorkshire produce alongside refined pub classics prepared by Executive Chef Aled Williams and Head Chef Charlie Rush.
The pub also offers eight boutique bedrooms, a carefully curated drinks list and a relaxed bar welcoming both diners and those simply calling in for a pint.
The latest recognition adds to a growing list of accolades for The General Tarleton, which has already received praise from national publications including Waitrose Food magazine, The Times, Condé Nast Traveller and The Telegraph.
