Harrogate Town’s Morgan Williams 'unlikely' to recover from injury in time to face Sutton United

Harrogate Town midfielder Morgan Williams is “unlikely” to win his race to be fit enough to face Sutton United this Saturday, Simon Weaver has confirmed.

The 21-year-old has been in excellent form for the Sulphurites of late, but missed both of their recent FA Cup clashes with Bury due to a minor muscular issue picked up during the closing stages of the 1-0 win at Woking on October 10.

And although Town’s manager stopped short of completely ruling the ex-AFC Wimbledon man out of this weekend’s National League fixture, he admitted that Williams is “struggling.”

Speaking on Friday morning, Weaver told the Harrogate Advertiser: “Morgan came off at Woking after feeling something in the top of his thigh during the last five or 10 minutes of that game.

“He said that he was alright to carry on at the time. It wasn’t anything too bad, just a twinge, but the physios were worried about it.

“On the Monday after the game he was feeling sore. It’s a bit of muscle weakness at the top of the thigh, just a slight strain.

“But, he’s not quite fully fit yet. It’s been a race against time to get him right this week and he is still struggling.

“The hope was that he would be okay for Sutton, though it is looking unlikely now. Wednesday next week is probably more realistic.”

One player who will definitely miss out is centre-half Grant Horton, who limped off in the first half of Tuesday night’s FA Cup fourth-qualifying-round replay victory over Bury after pulling a hamstring.

“Grant is looking at two to three weeks out,” Weaver added.

“It’s a real shame for him because he has been performing ever so well since coming into the team.”

Horton joins long-term casualties Tom Lees and Bryn Morris in Harrogate’s treatment room.

Saturday’s clash between second-placed Town and Sutton, who currently sit in 13th position, gets underway at Wetherby Road at 12.30pm.
