'Local needs' a priority says Hallam Land as it consults over a major new housing development in Harrogate
“We are particularly keen to gather suggestions on uses for the local centre to help ensure this space responds to local needs”
The leading land agent promoting proposals for more than 1,000 new homes to the north west of Harrogate says it is keen to reach out to residents to ensure the plans “meet local needs”.

Hallam Land is inviting local people to share their views on proposals for up to 1,100 new homes to the east of Burley Bank Road and west of Oaker Bank in Harrogate.
The new residential-led mixed use sustainable urban extension at Burley Bank would cover approximately 73.8 hectares with 40% affordable housing, alongside land for a primary school, a local centre, employment space and extensive green and open space.
Hallam Land says it is particularly keen to gather feedback on potential uses for the local centre, which could host community space alongside flexible retail options like a café or a convenience shop.
Anyone with an idea for a service, facility or community use that could benefit the new development and surrounding area, are being encouraged to complete the survey.
Adam Masters, Senior Land and Planning Manager at Hallam Land said: “We know people want to see community infrastructure delivered alongside new homes.
“That is why the significant number of affordable homes will be delivered alongside community infrastructure such as land for a new primary school, if required, a local centre and ancillary retail uses, employment space, and improved cycling, walking and bus connections.
“We are particularly keen to gather suggestions on uses for the local centre to help ensure this space responds to local needs. We encourage local people to have their say to help inform the emerging vision for this proposal.”
Around 40% of the proposed Burley Bank site would be retained as green or open space including landscaping, biodiversity enhancements, recreation and sustainable drainage.
The plans would also introduce new walking, cycling and bus connections, with the aim of creating a well-connected community with improved access to Harrogate town centre and the surrounding countryside.

Hallam Land is one of the leading strategic land promoters in the UK and has previously delivered an extensive range of strategic developments across the country over the last 36 years, including residential, commercial, retail and infrastructure projects.
“Burley Bank represents an exciting opportunity to create a new, sustainable community that responds to Harrogate’s housing needs while providing the infrastructure, facilities and green spaces to benefit both new and existing residents,” said Adam Masters of Hallam Land.
Hallam Land is encouraging local people to take part in the consultation and share their views on the proposals to help inform its development.
A leaflet with freepost feedback is being distributed locally to 5,000 residents in the Harrogate area.
