Harrogate teenager Ava Bounds is taking the film world by storm

Shortlisted for IMDb New Filmmaker Award 2020 at the age of just 14, Ava Bounds is very definitely a rising star in fresh filmmaking.

Ava's debut micro short Players, which won numerous awards at global film festivals, has earned the youngster global recognition for possessing unusual creative flair alongside instinctive filmmaking skills - and usually with a peculiar twist.

In terms of starting young, Ava’s artistic debut was as an actor aged 11, working with Sam Mendes as Nunu Carney in his West End smash hit, The Ferryman.

From a single digit young age Ava has been making artistic narratives usually within a period setting in her native Yorkshire.

Ava said: "Yorkshire is a filmmaker's dream, with everything, from dark mills to perfect period houses, seaside to rolling hills. Plus there is a lot of talent here."

A trained method actor, Ava's latest short film called Beth is a period piece set in in 1898 based around true events at The West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum in Wakefield, later renamed High Royd.

Filmed in Ripon and Leeds during the summer with a cast and crew of 15, Ava wrote, directed and edited Beth, which tells the story of Elizabeth Hannah Martin who was a patient at the hospital who made an escape attempt.

Ultra focused, this talented teenager sees her future as simply writing, storytelling and directing.
