Ripon RUFC record biggest win of the season as Halifax Vandals RUFC are taken apart

Ripon RUFC recorded their biggest win of the 2025/26 season when they thrashed Halifax Vandals 62-7.

The Blues headed into Saturday’s Yorkshire Two contest in fine form and produced another impressive performance as they ran in nine tries to make it four wins on the spin.

There wasn’t too much between the sides in terms of the half-time score-line, with the Blues leading their visitors 15-7.

But, the men from Mallorie Park completely dominated proceedings after the interval and were able to score try after try.

The opening period began with the sides cautiously probing each other before Ripon broke the deadlock through number eight Elliot Davies-Taylor, who finished off a well-constructed multi-phase move.

Fly-half Morgan Clark added the resulting conversion, before extending the home lead with a penalty goal.

Halifax responded with a well-deserved converted try following a period of sustained pressure, narrowing the gap to 10–7.

However, just before the break, the Blues capitalised on a yellow card that was shown to a visiting player as skipper James Pearce touched down following a line-out catch-and-drive.

The second period would however belong firmly to Ripon.

Maintaining their discipline and increasing the tempo of their play, they made full use of their numerical advantage during the early stages of the half.

Their lead was quickly extended through tries by Jordan Layne and Henry Hanson, before a moment of brilliance from lock Billy Fletcher saw him intercept a midfield pass and sprint away to score a spectacular long-range effort.

As the match entered the final quarter, Halifax continued to battle, but Ripon’s forward power and attacking cohesion proved too much for the West Yorkshiremen to handle.

Allan Hudson added to the tally after another line-out drive, before further tries from Harry Drane, Clark and Ollie Lang-Burns took the home tally to nine.

Clark’s contribution from the tee was outstanding, and he finished the afternoon with a personal haul of 22 points, and taking his season total to an impressive 193.

Victory keeps the Blues sixth in the table ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Baildon.
