Harrogate Railway were 'back to their best' during derby win over Selby Town

Harrogate Railway were "back to their best" during Saturday's 3-0 derby triumph over Selby Town.

The NCEL Division One title-hopefuls recorded a seventh consecutive league win at the weekend courtesy of goals from Harry Lynn, Harris Eggleston and Alex Burton.

But, although the men from Station View have been in fine form of late, manager Rob Youhill hasn’t been totally satisfied with how they have been performing.

The Rail boss was however thrilled by what he felt was a far more complete display – and a first clean-sheet in seven attempts.

"We have been on an upward trajectory, but it did feel like we were back to our best on Saturday," Youhill said.

"We controlled the whole game and I thought that we played on the front foot. Everyone knows what their jobs are and we just seem to be kicking on.

"It's great to get a clean-sheet. I spoke during the week and before the game to the lads about ‘zero’ being the most important number and us keeping a clean-sheet, and we have done that.

"It’s not just on the goalkeeper, it’s not just on the back four, it has to be a collective thing, and on Saturday it was. It’s disappointing that we went so long without a clean-sheet and I think that keeping them is going to be the key going forwards because we have scored in every game.

"If you score in each game and are keeping a clean-sheet, then it’s pretty simple maths. We just have to continue this, and not get arrogant or cocky.”

Railway took the lead against Selby with just nine minutes on the clock. Dom Creamer’s shot from a Joe Navier cross was blocked, but the rebound fell to Harry Lynn, who calmly picked out the far corner of the away net.

The home advantage was doubled shortly before half-time when Harris Eggleston’s strike looped into the net via a deflection off a visiting defender.

The game was then put to bed early in the second period as leading goal-scorer Alex Burton finished Eggleston’s centre with a cushioned far-post header.

Victory over Selby keeps the Rail second in the table, where they sit four points behind leaders Dearne & District but with two games in hand.

This Saturday, Youhill and his troops face a crunch clash with fellow high-flyers Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, who are currently just one place and two points behind them.

That game gets underway in South Yorkshire at 3pm.

Mid-table Knaresborough Town’s NCEL Premier Division showdown with Horbury Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Simon Parkes’ side are due to return to action this Saturday when they entertain Frickley Athletic (3pm).
