The closures will allow contractors to complete the final stage of connecting the new road to the existing A59, bringing the long-running scheme a step closer to being fully open to traffic.

North Yorkshire Council has confirmed that Church Hill is due to reopen on Friday, November 6, before the programme of road closures begins.

From Monday, November 9 until Friday, November 13, the A59 will be closed overnight between Bolton Abbey roundabout and Menwith Hill crossroads from 7pm until 6am each day.

A signed diversion will be in place via Ilkley and Otley, while local access will be maintained wherever possible.

However, access routes to individual properties will change as work progresses between locations, with affected residents having already received further information.

Further work will take place from Monday, November 16 to Thursday, November 19, when the Church Hill and Hall Lane junctions with the A59 will be closed during the daytime to allow final surfacing works to be completed.

The A59 itself will remain open to traffic throughout this stage.

A second phase of overnight closures will then be in force from Friday, November 20 until Friday, November 27.

During this period, the A59 will again be closed between Bolton Abbey roundabout and Menwith Hill crossroads from 7pm until 6am each night, with the signed diversion remaining in place via Ilkley and Otley.

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys and to follow the signed diversion routes while the work is carried out.

The council has also warned that the programme is weather dependent and dates may change at short notice if conditions are unsuitable.

The latest works mark one of the final stages of the Kex Gill improvement scheme, which has been designed to provide a safer and more resilient route by bypassing the landslip-prone section of the existing A59.
