Tribute to a legend: Sir Terry Wogan in Harrogate

Here, we revisit the times Sir Terry brought his trademark wit and humility to Harrogate.

Most recently, Sir Terry shot scenes for Terry and Mason’s Great Food Trip at The Old Swan hotel, where they sampled produce cooked by the hotel’s head chef Daniel Sadler.

The 20-part series attempted to retrace writer Samuel Chamberlain’s footsteps around the country based on his book British Bouquet: An Epicurean Tour of Britain, and focused on old-fashioned dining experiences.

On the same trip, the pair also visited Mother Shipton's Cave in Knaresborough, where they were welcomed by owner Fiona Martin.

Fiona was thrilled to welcome both Terry and Mason, along with the whole production team.

She said at the time: “It is always a pleasure to welcome celebrity visitors to the park, both Terry and Mason were an absolute delight and thoroughly engrossed themselves in the history and mystic of the park and its heritage."

Although Sir Terry was well known for his two stints as BBC Radio 2's breakfast DJ and presenting Children in Need every November, how could anyone forget what he brought to that annual celebration of all things pop - Eurovision?

In 1982, his legendary commentary came from Harrogate's International Centre, when the town hosted the Eurovision Song Contest.
