Harrogate-born award-winning comedian Maisie Adam returns to former school for special visit

"Welcoming a former student back to see how their school has evolved is particularly special and a wonderful reminder of the lasting connections our schools create”

Pupils and staff at a secondary school in Harrogate were delighted to welcome back a familiar face this week as they celebrated major investment in the school's facilities.

Former Head Girl and now one of the UK's best-known stand-up comedians, Maisie Adam, returned to St Aidan's Church of England High School following her performance at Harrogate Theatre in support of Frank's Fund – a charity that holds a special place within the school community.

As well as catching up with staff and students, Maisie was given a tour of the school's recently completed Library and Sixth Form Lounge and Study Hub, showcasing the significant investment that has been made to enhance facilities for current and future pupils.

The new library has been designed to encourage reading, independent learning and a love of books, while the Sixth Form Lounge and Study Hub provides dedicated spaces for post-16 students to study, collaborate and socialise.

During her visit, Maisie also dropped into lessons to meet staff and pupils, enjoyed one of the school’s popular school lunches and was treated to a preview of the school's forthcoming production of Frozen as the cast rehearsed during their lunch break.

Headteacher Siân Dover said: "We were delighted to welcome Maisie back to St Aidan's Church of England High School.

“She remains a fantastic role model for our students, and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to show her some of the exciting developments taking place across the school.

"Our new Library and Sixth Form Lounge and Study Hub represent a significant investment in our students, providing modern, inspiring spaces where they can learn, study and flourish."

Students were equally excited to meet a former pupil who has achieved national recognition while remaining closely connected to her hometown and continuing to support local charitable causes.

Jane Goodwin, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust, said: "Welcoming a former student back to see how their school has evolved is particularly special and a wonderful reminder of the lasting connections our schools create."

The school said Maisie's return highlighted the strong links between former and current students while celebrating the continued investment being made to ensure young people have access to modern, inspiring learning environments.
