Popular Harrogate cafe owner's post gets nearly 25,000 views and shares on Instagram
“The outpouring of love towards the cafe after owner Leda posted her support for the When You've Gotta Go scheme on Instagram was the last thing she expected”
The popular owner of a Harrogate cafe says she is surprised that her post about the independent business’s loo policy has gone viral.

The unexpected turn of events for Westmoreland Coffee House started when it agreed to take part in Harrogate Town Council's new toilet initiative to allow free and open access for non-customers to local businesses’ restroom facilities.
The outpouring of love towards the cafe after owner Leda posted her support for the When You've Gotta Go scheme on Instagram was the last thing she expected.
In total, so far, the Westmoreland Coffee House post has received nearly 25,000 views and shares.
“We’ve been so touched by the lovely response to our ‘When you’ve gotta go’ post,” said Leda.
“We were surprised by the reaction but it means so much to us.
“We’d like to say a big ’thank you ‘to everyone who has shown their support for Westmoreland Coffee House.
“The people are the loveliest part of what we do.”
Since Leda took over Westmoreland Coffee House in August 2022, she has built the place up into a genuine community cafe.
Still a labour of love four years later, this bastion of good conversation is located in the area round Westmoreland Street, Regent Parade and Mowbray Square.
The character of the welcome when you step through the cafe’s doors is matched only by the lovely character of the cafe’s layout with its attractive, curtained booths.
Leda said: “Myself and the team work hard to make our little independent café somewhere people feel comfortable and looked after.
“But I love the everyday chats, getting to know our regulars and welcoming new faces.”
Boasting free Wi-Fi and a dog-friendly approach, Westmoreland Coffee House not only serves up artisan coffees but, also, fresh-made sandwiches served warm with salad and homemade cakes.
Owner Leda is always happy to greet new faces amid a civilised atmosphere.
“Whether you fancy a quiet coffee, a slice of cake or lunch with a friend, we’d love you to come and enjoy some time with us,” she said.
“If you haven’t visited before, please pop in and say hello.”
