Election day: Polling gets under way

Polling stations are opening across Pendle as voting begins in the General and local elections.

People will have until 10pm to cast their votes for who they want to be their new MP and councillor.

There are five candidates in the Westminster election – Azhar Ali (Labour), Laura Fisk (Green), Graham Roach (Liberal Democrat), Andrew Stephenson (Conservative) and Mick Waddington (UKIP).

The count will begin at Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne at 11pm and we will bring you all the latest news up to and including the result as the night progresses.

Attention will the switch to the Pendle Council elections, where a total of 59 candidates will contest 17 seats.

No party currently has overall control of the council, with the Conservatives having 18 councillors, Labour 17, the Lib Dems 11 and the BNP one. There are also two vacant seats.

Counting begins at 12-30pm tomorrow afternoon and we will bring you the results as they are announced.
