Beckwithshaw CC’s 1st XI take a step closer to Championship West title on rain-affected weekend

Beckwithshaw CC crushed Knaresborough 2nds as they took a step closer to wrapping up the Yorkshire Premier League North’s Championship West title.

In their first season since transferring from the Airedale & Wharfedale League, the Stags sit 10 points clear at the top of the table with two games left to play.

Saturday’s comprehensive victory was their 17th in 20 outings this term and means that they could be crowned champions if they overcome fellow promotion hopefuls Studley Royal next time out.

‘Shaw racked up 305 all out in 41.5 overs at Knaresborough, Harry Wenham smashing 115, while Sam Moore (72) also weighed in.

Tom Baines and Lewis Wrathall took three wickets apiece for the home side, but their batsmen struggled and were dismissed on 139 despite the efforts of Benjamin Ward (56).

Allround ace Wenham was the pick of the Stags’ attack, finishing up with 3-25.

Having finally broken into the promotion places in round 19, Studley Royal slipped from second to fourth as a result of their three-wicket loss at Bolton Percy.

Leo Wilson (48) and Matt Coad (40) top scored as the visitors were bowled out on 177.

Bolton then reached 180/7 in the 42nd over as Wilson bagged 3-40 in a losing cause.

That loss leaves Studley level on points with two sides, including Arthington, who climbed into the runners-up spot courtesy of a 100-run success over Oulton.

Harsh Patel (63), Hari Mandora (45), Abdul Saboor (42), and captain Naveed Andrabi (36) all contributed to a first-innings total of 268 all out.

Sourav Chandolia then ran riot, scooping 6-31 alongside Rahuul Khode (3-20) as Oulton were sent packing on 148.

Rock-bottom Sessay 2nds endured another afternoon to forget as they were skittled for only 65 on their way to an eight-wicket loss to Thirsk.

Bilton In Ainsty’s home showdown with South Milford was abandoned due to the wet weather with the visitors all out for 152.

Monty Jackson had snapped up 4-36 for the Frogs.

In the Premier Division, sixth-placed Harrogate’s 1st XI saw their clash with recently-crowned champions Clifton Alliance rained off after 40.2 overs.

Peter Greenfield was on course for a century, having made it to 74 not out when the players were forced from the field with the scoreboard reading 162/7.

Mid-table Knaresborough 1st XI’s top-flight meeting with Sheriff Hutton Bridge also fell foul of the weather, but Greg Pickles and his men will not have been too unhappy about that after they were knocked over for 154.

Overseas ace Patham Pawaluge batted well once again for the visitors, scoring 77 of those runs, while Maurice Griffin added a useful 35 lower down the order.

Harrogate 2nds are not yet mathematically safe from relegation from Premier Division Two following their 50-run reverse at the hands of Londesborough Park.

Chasing a total of 192/4, the Roosters were dismissed on 159, with Laurence O’Connor (41 not out) the only visiting batsman to really impress.

But, ‘Gate need just a couple of points from their remaining two fixtures to ensure that they beat the drop.

Fifth-placed Sessay 1st XI were left frustrated by the weather having bowled Woodhouse Grange 2nds out for 157.

Stephen Langstaff and Ayana Siriwardhana took three scalps apiece for the Thirsk outfit, who had reached 15/0 in reply when the heavens opened.
