Lunchtime police chase through Harrogate town centre sparks hunt for driver
Traffic officers chased a vehicle through Harrogate town centre yesterday lunchtime (October 14) before the driver dumped the car outside the Convention Centre
Police chased a driver through Harrogate town centre yesterday afternoon, sparking a search for a suspect who fled on foot.
The incident began at 1.26pm when traffic officers spotted a Volvo XC40 on Hookstone Road and ordered the driver to pull over.
Instead of stopping, the driver continued into the town centre, forcing police to launch a pursuit
The chase took place across busy town centre streets as lunchtime shoppers and motorists looked on.
It reached an abrupt conclusion outside the Harrogate Convention centre, where the driver suddenly abandoned the Volvo and fled the scene on foot.
The vehicle was recovered by police outside the venue, but the driver managed to escape.
Following the pursuit, armed officers attended Swinton Court in Harlow Hill later that afternoon to carry out investigations in connection with the incident.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police told the Harrogate Advertiser that the officers were at the scene "making enquiries into a failed to stop incident in the town earlier in the afternoon."
They added that enquiries remain ongoing to locate the driver.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the chase or saw the Volvo being abandoned yesterday afternoon to come forward.
