Beckwithshaw CC hold their nerve to wrap up Championship West title on final day of 2026 season
Beckwithshaw CC held their nerve to wrap up the Yorkshire Premier League North Championship West title on Saturday afternoon.
The Stags, who made the switch from the Airedale & Wharfedale League at the end of last season, headed into the final weekend top of the table but level on points with three other teams.

Chris Wademan and his men did however know that their fate was in their own hands due to their superior head-to-head record in matches against their title rivals, and that if they took maximum points against Bolton Percy, then results elsewhere would prove irrelevant.
‘Shaw did not have things all their own way after winning the toss, and were left chasing a total of 189 all out.
Harry Wenham (3-26) and Lewis Hughes (3-30) were the pick of the home attack, and Wenham then shone with the bat, hitting 51 not out alongside Ben Holderness (37) as the Stags eased to a six-wicket success inside 36 overs.
Arthington also did the business to hold on to second place and join Beckwithshaw in securing promotion to Premier Division Two.
The former Theakston Nidderdale League champions wasted absolutely no time in dispatching visiting Whitkirk, skittling them for only 86 runs.
Rahuul Khode was in unplayable form, snapping up 6-11 before Harsh Patel smashed a rapid 46 not out to lead the hosts to 87/4 in less than eight overs.
For the second season in a row, Studley Royal came up just short in their promotion bid, finishing fourth after they were edged out by third-placed Colton Institute.
Sam Weightman top-scored with a knock of 48 as Johnny Harding’s team were all out for 205.
Dan Craven then bagged 3-40 to keep Studley very much in the contest, but Colton managed to complete their run-chase with just six balls to spare.
Bilton In Ainsty finished in sixth position after they beat rock-bottom Sessay 2nds by five wickets.
The basement boys were all out for 153, Shan Akhunkhail claiming 4-32 as Christopher Till struck 37.
Dom Exton then weighed in with an unbeaten 69 to guide the Frogs to 156/5 despite the efforts of James Margerison, who grabbed 3-43.
Knaresborough 2nds registered a long overdue success, on the road at Thirsk, to ensure that they beat the drop.
Callum Halliday took five scalps as the home side were dismissed on 181 before Oliver Ward (58) made a half-century as the Aspin Lane outfit edged over the line off the final delivery of the game.
Sessay 1st XI’s underwhelming Premier Division Two campaign ended with a disappointing defeat to already-relegated Bridlington.
Set a mammoth target of 303, the Thirsk side actually made an extremely good fist of their run-chase, but came up 19 runs short in the end.
Overseas star Ayana Siriwardhana once again delivered with the bat, contributing 91 to that total of 283/9 in 50 overs as Sessay ended the season in fourth position.
Harrogate 2nds saw off Sheriff Hutton Bridge to ensure that they ended the summer just above the relegation places.
Tasked with overhauling a score of 239/7, the Roosters completed a four-wicket win in the last over thanks largely to the efforts of Will Bates (93), Olly Lamb (48) and Max Sowray (31 not out).
In the Premier Division, Harrogate 1st XI were embarrassed at home by bottom-of-the-table Carlton Towers.
Having used what was essentially a dead rubber to blood some of their emerging talent, ‘Gate were left chasing 236 all out.
Ex-Yorkshire CCC spinner Jack Shutt rounded off a fine season by taking 4-64, but in-form opener Arjun Ramkumar (51) was the only Roosters batsman to make an impression as their reply ended with the scoreboard reading 98.
Defeat means that ‘Gate finish 2026 sixth in the table, two places better off than Knaresborough, who signed off with an impressive 81-run triumph over runners-up York.
In his final game as captain, Greg Pickles hit 68 to lead the hosts to 191 all out, then Louie Wilson stole the show by helping himself to a stunning return of 7-11 to send the visitors packing for just 110.
