Knaresborough Town suffer heavy home defeat, as Harrogate Railway are held to a goalless draw
Winless run continues as Boro are beaten 5-1 on home soil by league leaders
Knaresborough Town are now five games without a win in the NCEL Premier Division following Saturday’s 5-1 home defeat to Dearne & District.

A fine run of form during August and September had the men from Manse Lane challenging right at the top end of the table with games in hands on nearly all of their fellow high-flyers.
But, Saturday’s heavy loss means that they have now taken just two points from the last 15 on offer and find themselves down in ninth position.
Conditions throughout were far from conducive to good football, with heavy rain falling as a strong wind swirled, but it was the visitors who settled the quicker.
And it took them just four minutes to break the deadlock as Cian Guest crossed from the left wing for Justin Circuit head home with ease at the back post.
Owen Fieldsend then broke clear for Dearne, but shot wide, as did Jamie Austin with a curling effort.
Nathan Cartman saw a strike saved by visiting goalkeeper Ellis Pickard following the first Knaresborough attack of note, but, within a minute, the guests were 2-0 up after Circuit found the net from a narrow angle.
From a Boro corner, Will Lenehan had a shot blocked and then scrambled away, before Edd Hall was called upon to save from Jack Boyle at the other end.
Aaron White shot wide for Knaresborough, as did Austin for Dearne, before Slater Barnes was unlucky when he blocked a clearance from Pickard only to see the ball fly wide of the mark.
Guest then headed over from a corner at the conclusion of the half and Knaresborough made changes at the start of the second period.
After 56 minutes, Cartman made it 2-1 from the penalty spot after Ross McCormack was brought down in the area, but the home crowd’s hopes of a comeback were dashed almost immediately.
Just moments later, Dearne restored their two goal advantage when Austin curled in a great shot from the edge of the Boro box.
In the 65th minute, Jordan Kershaw made it 4-1 with a shot which took a heavy deflection beyond Hall’s dive, then Guest hit another effort against the cross-bar.
The Knaresborough keeper saved again from Austin before Lenehan had a volley kept out by Dearne stopper Pickard and Ben Gelder headed over from a Dan Thirkell cross from the right.
The scoreline was made even more flattering for Dearne in added time when Adam Baskerville latched on to a defensive mix-up to tap home from close range.
That goal meant that Saturday’s defeat was the worst Boro have suffered since February 2025, when a visit to Thackley resulted in a 5-0 reverse.
The good news for Parkes and his men is that, despite their recent struggles, they remain just four points shy of the division’s last play-off berth, having played a game less than Retford FC, the current occupiers of that position.
Meanwhile, in NCEL Division One, Harrogate Railway’s wait for back-to-back wins continues following Saturday’s goalless draw at Immingham Town.
The Starbeck outfit enjoyed an impressive 3-1 home success over Hemsworth Miners Welfare in their previous league outing, but drew a blank in challenging conditions at the weekend.
That result leaves them 13th in the table, with 21 points to their name from 17 matches.
