Chanse Headman speaks positively about Harrogate Town spell following Bromley FC move

Chanse Headman had only positive things to say about his short time as a Harrogate Town player after leaving the club for Bromley.

The 21-year-old defender arrived at Wetherby Road from Premier League Brentford as recently as mid-January, making 16 appearances last term as the Sulphurites battled unsuccessfully to beat relegation from the Football League.

But having impressed during his first run of games in senior football, Headman became the subject of interest from the Ravens, who finished 2025/26 as League Two champions and are now preparing for life in the third tier of English football.

After approaching Harrogate earlier this summer, Bromley eventually met Simon Weaver’s asking price last week, meaning that the promising youngster departed North Yorkshire for an undisclosed transfer fee – earning Town a healthy profit on a player whom they signed on a free transfer.

And, although he admitted that he wanted to move to the South London club “as soon as possible” after learning of their interest as well as confirming that he had been “in talks” with them “for a while”, Headman believes that his stint as a Sulphurite benefitted him massively.

"It was my first taste of men's football going to Harrogate,” he told Bromley’s YouTube channel.

"Going from Under-21s football to being thrown in the deep end in a League Two relegation battle was never going to be easy, but I'm not someone who is ever going to back down from a challenge, so I just took it in my stride and tried to help the team as much as I could.

"We went down on the last day of the season, which is a bit unfortunate, but it was by a point, so we did well to get to where we did.

"The experience I took from that was something that you can't buy. I'll be bringing that here [to Bromley], so that experience has definitely helped me.”

Headman scored twice during his 16 League Two appearances for Town, with both of those goals coming during the first half of a memorable away-day success at Tranmere Rovers in March.
