Yorkshire Ambulance Service chief steps down

Saying he feels it is right for him to ‘pursue new challenges and opportunities’, David Whiting, who joined the Trust in 2011, will no longer run the emergency service.

The role will be filled by current deputy and executive director of finance and performance Rob Barnes who will lead the Trust on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is recruited.

On leaving the Trust, Mr Whiting said: “Yorkshire Ambulance Service has much to be proud of with a fantastic team of dedicated people committed to delivering the best possible services for patients while leading the country in terms of results for patients in major trauma and cardiac arrest survival.

“I have been proud to lead the organisation and, with new challenges and opportunities ahead, I believe the Trust will benefit from a change of leadership with fresh ideas and insights to keep it moving in the right direction.

“From a personal point of view, I feel it is also right for me to pursue new challenges and opportunities.”

Mr Whiting joined the Trust from Great Western Ambulance Service. Also a registered paramedic with more than 30 years’ of experience in the ambulance service, Mr Whiting was previously the director of operations at East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Accepting his resignation the Trust’s chair Della Canning said: “Over the last four years David has worked hard to ensure the Trust is an asset to Yorkshire and its communities providing quality emergency services.

“On behalf of the Trust board I want to thank David for his leadership and the significant contribution he has made to us on our journey to become a Foundation Trust.”
