Families invited to discover magical autumn trail created by local schoolchildren at Swinton Estate in Ripon
Magical autumn trail launches in Ripon with help from schoolchildren 🍂
Families looking for an adventure this half term are being invited to step into an enchanting woodland world at the Swinton Estate in Ripon, where local schoolchildren have helped create a magical new autumn trail.
Swinton Bivouac has teamed up with Masham Church of England Primary School to launch The Magical Autumn Trail - a family-friendly trail which takes visitors on a mysterious journey through the forest.
The trail, created with the help of local artist Sori Abbot, introduces a cast of colourful characters brought to life through imagination and teamwork.
Pupils from Masham Church of England Primary School have played a key role behind the scenes, naming the characters, testing the route and painting props to help create a magical experience for visitors.
Organised with support from Friends of Masham School (FOMS), the trail follows the story of Harry the hedgehog as he prepares for hibernation and searches for his friend Holly Hedgehog.
Along the way, families can explore the beautiful woodland surroundings of the Swinton Estate, including the historic Druids Temple and the Sycamore Trail, making it the perfect opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors together.
The trail costs just £5 per child, with every young explorer receiving a prize when they return to the Bivouac Café.
Visitors can also warm up afterwards with hot chocolates and refreshments while taking in the peaceful surroundings.
There is an added bonus for families too, as every trail purchase includes free entry into a raffle for the chance to win afternoon tea for two on the Swinton Estate.
All money raised will be donated by Swinton Estate to Friends of Masham Primary School, helping support future opportunities and experiences for local children.
Iain Shelton, CEO of Swinton Estate, said: “We are delighted to be working together and supporting our local school.
“It’s a great team effort to bring the trail to life, which we hope families across the region and beyond will enjoy.”
Jane Wood, headteacher at Masham Church of England Primary School, said the trail demonstrated what could be achieved when a community came together.
“This magical trail is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when a community comes together.
“We are delighted to partner with Swinton Estate and our incredible school families and friends to create something that everyone can enjoy.
“The funds raised will help us continue to inspire our children, build their aspirations, and provide enriching experiences that will create lasting memories.”
The Magical Autumn Trail will run from October 19, 2026, until January 31, 2027.
