Teacher Ellie on her role as Scarmouche in the St Andrew's Players production of We Will Rock You At Harrogate Theatre

Hot off the trails of last year’s production of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Ellie Morrow is ready to break free in Harrogate St Andrew’s Players musical theatre’s production of We Will Rock You.

Packed with Queen hits like Somebody to Love, One Vision and A Kind of Magic, We Will Rock You tells the story of two young rebels, Galileo and Scaramouche, trying to break free in a world ruled by the Globalsoft Corporation and its mistress, the evil Killer Queen.

I caught up with Ellie, who stars as the no-nonsense, scene-stealing heroine Scaramouche, to find out more as the cast takes Harrogate Theatre by storm.

Please tell me about yourself

Hello! I’m Ellie, I’m 30 and I’m a primary school teacher. I grew up in Harrogate and moved back two years ago after living down south. I’ve always loved all things musical theatre, and love being able to perform with the St Andrew’s Players on the Harrogate Theatre stage.

The confidence that they have given me, the respect and responsibility really helped make me feel ready to even consider a lead role.

Do you have a dream part?

I have a few… my current top three would be Audrey in Little Shop Of Horrors, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and Joanna in Sweeney Todd.

What are the challenges of the show?

A definite challenge is remembering whose lines are whose to sing, especially in Headlong. My character provides a lot of comedy throughout with her no-nonsense attitude to all the crazy things happening around her, and finding the right balance to make the best of these moments has been important.

What song are you most looking forward to performing?

Really hard question because they are all such good songs. My current favourite is Under Pressure. It’s the first time Scaramouche and Galileo sing together and I love how the song builds. There’s definitely the potential for another song to creep into the top spot as we continue on with the rehearsal process though.

Why should someone buy a ticket to We Will Rock You?

So many reasons! Who doesn’t love Queen? The show is really fun and funny, full of absolute bops and is an opportunity to support local theatre. What’s not to love?

We Will Rock You runs at the Harrogate Theatre from Wednesday October 21 to Saturday October 24, daily at 7.30pm with a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30pm.
