The broken shelter on Wetherby Road with its missing glass panes had been causing some issues on wet, windy or cold days for elderly passengers, in particular, when waiting for a bus.

One caring local resident, who noticed part of the bus shelter had been fixed and part hadn’t, got in touch with North Yorkshire Council’s Public & Community Transport Officer.

“Just waiting for the bus on Wetherby Road in Harrogate into town and I’ve noticed that the glass frame that had been smashed recently had been replaced,” said the resident.

“Unfortunately the frame below the Wedderburn Road sign is still empty and when it is blowing a gale up Wetherby Road and pouring down the poor passengers get little protection.”

The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, was surprised by the speed of the council’s response and a pledge to sort it out.

“North Yorkshire Council told me that, when the contractors attended, they took measurements for the repair to the stop opposite Wedderburn Road and that this will be included in the next round of repairs.

“Local residents would like to thanks to the team who replaced the glass frame and swept up the broken glass and, also, the council for their speedy reply.”
