Harrogate to host Northern Homebuilding and Renovating Show in drive for greener homes

North Yorkshire’s drive to make homes and buildings greener is being showcased during the Northern Homebuilding and Renovating Show, at Harrogate Convention Centre this weekend.

Show-goers will be able to discover how to make their homes warmer, more energy efficient and sustainable , from Friday October 30 to Sunday November 1.

And organisers say all this is against the backdrop of North Yorkshire’s ambition to become carbon negative by 2040 and the newly adopted  York and North Yorkshire Retrofit Strategy.

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority has stated that over 68 per cent of homes and more than 62 per cent of non-domestic buildings in the region fall below an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C.

It says that more than 1.16 million individual retrofit measures (such as insulation, updated windows, solar panels, and air-source heat pumps) will be needed.

Reinforcing this commitment to sustainability, the Northern Homebuilding and Renovating Show venue Harrogate Convention Centre recently announced a multi-million-pound site improvement.

Among its sustainability initiatives is a comprehensive programme of energy and climate control infrastructure upgrades, including the installation of more energy-saving LED lighting throughout the venue.

These will enable the venue to deliver a better delegate experience in a more efficient and sustainable way, with savings in energy bills.

Michael Holmes, director of content at the Homebuilding and Renovating Show, said: “Many homeowners see the benefit of investing in creating energy-efficient and sustainable homes to enhance their lifestyle and increase their property’s value.

"With a host of masterclasses and seminars leading with this topic at the Harrogate event, it’s great to be aligning with a venue that shares our mutual sustainability goals and ambitions.”

The Masterclass, Self Build, Home Improvement and Home Energy Theatres are packed with topics and advice around:  Designing for Light and Warmth in Passive Homes; Heat Pump Sizing and System Design Simplified; How to Insulate Old or Listed Properties and Solid Walls; The Future-Proof Home; From Old Home to Eco Home; Heating your New Home, and many, many more.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Whether planning a major renovation or simply looking to make a home warmer and more energy efficient, the Northern Homebuilding and Renovating Show offers plenty of inspiration to help banish energy waste this Halloween and beyond."
