Running until February 29, 2020, Keith Haring – New Wave celebrates the continuing influence on today’s world of an artist and activist who died just 31.

This exciting and vibrant new Harrogate show ranges from original signed prints, exhibition posters and vintage ephemera, as well as to works by famous contemporary artists inspired by Haring, who died in 1990 and was a champion of AIDs awareness.

Haring worked with artists such as Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat and designed record covers for RUN DMC and David Bowie.

As close to the music world as he was to street culture, Haring also directed a music video for Grace Jones and developed a fashion line with Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood.

The exhibition follows news this month of a world auction record price for a Haring mural, when his installation ‘Untitled (The Church of the Ascension Grace House Mural)’ achieved $3,860,075 at Bonhams in New York.

2019 has been bumper year for Haring fans, and the Harrogate exhibition follows closely on from the artist’s first major UK retrospective at Tate Liverpool.
