The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur youth player becomes Simon Weaver’s eighth new signing of the summer, and has been brought in to replace Chanse Headman following his move to League One Bromley earlier this month.

Baptiste has put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Wetherby Road and Town’s Head of Player Recruitment believes that the 6ft 3in defender has all the attributes to become a big hit in North Yorkshire.

“With Chanse departing, we are getting another defender with high potential,” explained Lloyd Kerry.

“We think there's a lot about his game where he can adapt quickly to men's football. He communicates well, he's aggressive, and he's comfortable on the ball.

“He suits our system in that right centre-back role or the middle of a back three.

“He's eager to get that opportunity to play men's football and both parties feel it’s a good fit, so hopefully he can progress and do well for himself.”

Baptiste boasts excellent pedigree in terms of his early years in the game having spent four seasons with Chelsea’s academy before moving across London to join Tottenham in 2020.

Three years later, he was handed a two-year professional contract by Spurs, however he was unable to force his way into first-team reckoning.

Released by the North London outfit in the summer of 2025, Baptiste was then snapped up by Middlesbrough, where he made one senior appearance – an extremely brief cameo from the substitutes’ bench in a 2-1 Championship win over Derby County.

He went on to feature 19 times for Boro’s Under-21s in Premier League Two last term, scoring one goal and wearing the captain’s armband on seven occasions.

Baptiste then spent the back end of last season on loan at National League Rochdale, though he did not play a single minute.

Relegated from League Two on the final day of 2025/26 after six years in the EFL, Town have been busy in the transfer market this summer as boss Weaver prepares for life back in the National League.

Baptiste follows goalkeeper Rory Watson, right-back Lewis Payne, midfielders Bailey Hobson, Will McGowan and Morgan Williams, and forwards Ciaran McGuckin and Rohan Vaughan into the Marcy Fitness Stadium.
