New: Major Harrogate store to close permanently

With the temperature struggling to get above zero as people struggled to work, the snow fall was lying on the ground and starting to repeat the scenes of last Friday's winter downpour.

But the roads are not as gridlocked quite as much as this time last week, as the video ilmed earlier today by reader Stuart Rhodes shows.

Traffic disruption seems to be not quite as bad, partly because lockdown warnings from the Government to stay indoors appear to have had a real impact and, partly, because Harrogate drivers themselves haven't forgotten how terrible their travel experiences were just six days ago.

Unlike last Friday, the buses are also running, albeit making slow progress, though for how much longer today as the cold front settles in is another question.

Forecasts say the snow will keep on falling heavily until around 7pm tonight - then the winter chill will drop to -2C guaranteeing more fun and games getting around tomorrow for drivers and pedestrians.

Tomorrow, Friday, it should ease a little with sunny spells, though daytime temperatures of -1C and -2C mean some snow may linger on pavements and roads.

This weekend, will see wintry sleet for much of Saturday morning and early afternoon, though the good news is temperatures will rise to 5C during daylight which may erode the snow.

Sunday is expected to see some sunshine and similar temperatures and, crucially, no snow!
