3. The Empire Theatre building became a restaurant
The old Empire Theatre building, also formerly know as the Gaiety, had been closed since the 1930s, although nothing much had been done with the premises and they were damaged by fire in 1996. 4. Harrogate Borough Council moved offices
In 2018, Harrogate Borough Council moved out of its famous Crescent Gardens building and into a 12 development at Knapping Mount. The Civic Centre was officially opened in 2017 and replaced council office accommodation in five separate locations across the town centre.
