Fortunately, the Dales town has received a shot in the arm from its MP as the voting deadline looms this week.

Julian Smith, MP for Skipton and Ripon, visited the town's high street on Friday to see the terrific shops and friendly Pateley atmosphere for himself where he was met by the bid's leaders from Nidderdale Chamber of Trade. And he was certainly impressed. The MP, who has been tweeting his support for Pateley, said: "Keith Tordoff and his team at the chamber of trade have put forward a phenomenral bid in the final of this national contest. "I'm so excited about it. Pateley Bridge has stood out with its unique and individual shops and a whole gamut of great attributes."The High Street just looks stunning. It's fantastic. I've been lobbying on its behalf when I've been in London."Votes are flooding in from around the world for Pateley's bid to win but readers are urged to keep voting for this lovely Dales town until the final moment. At the start of the week, Pateley was narrowly ahead of its fellow finalists Langport in Somerset and Kirkby Lonsdale on the edge of the Lake District.Keith Tordoff is keeping banging the drum. Last week saw him addressing all 317 students at Nidderdale High School about the Great British High Street Awards which had been arranged with the joint headteacher Mrs Siân Dover. The daily online vote is open until November 18 when the totals of the three finalists will be added to the voting by the competition’s judges who toured the town recently to see for themselves just how good Pateley is.To vote, visit www.thegreatbritishhighstreet.co.uk/finalist-village
