Kirkby Overblow, with its far reaching views of the lower Wharfe valley, is listed by The Telegraph as the poshest place to live in North Yorkshire.

Within easy striking distance of Harrogate, Wetherby and Leeds, it has a church, a primary school and a pub, but no post office.

One of Kirkby Overblow’s historic claims to fame is Saint Helen’s Well, found at the back of Swindon Lane in the churchyard of Grade ll listed All Saints’ Church.

In pre-Christian times, wells were holy sites, and many ancient wells can be found in or near churches, built on ground that was hallowed long before the churches were built.

Harrogate estate agent Harriet Davies has lived in the village for some years and said its exclusivity is probably due to the fact that people don't tend to move away, unless they have to.

She said: "It is a lovely place to live but other villages around this area are just as nice, I would say.

"We enjoy the scenic walks and there's a good village pub - but other places offer those things too.

"It's quite exciting really that the village is seen as the poshest in North Yorkshire.

"It is quite select as it's small, and properties don't come up for sale often. Perhaps that's the reason it's so sought after."

Other ‘most posh’ villages are: Scarcroft in West Yorkshire, Cawthorne in South Yorkshire and Sutton upon Derwent in East Yorkshire.
