A Virgin Money page has been set up and the group has already raised more than £265 of its £1000 target in just two days.
Joseph Keane, one of the men involved, said: "As young men we recognise that one day, if we haven’t already, we will all rely on the NHS to look after us, and we all know people that have been beneficiaries of our incredible health service. However, we also recognise that right now, the NHS may need the help of us and others.
"Therefore, we wanted to take this opportunity to try and help the men and women working tirelessly for our national health service in whatever way we could."

They have also set up an Instagram account, under the tag @running4gud, to keep people updated on their progress - and will be adding extra challenges and surprises at each money landmark to 'make things extra interesting'.
Joseph added: "Public support for our cause would give us a huge boost - each pound raised makes every mile easier, and we would love to be able to go above and beyond our target, much in the spirit of our local healthcare workers."
