Top concert pianist plays for school

Leading piano music students from Ripon Grammar School joined the Cathedral Concert Society for a piano recital given by international artist Olivia Sham.

The pianist, who is world renowned, gave a haunting recital of music by Schubert, Schumann and Liszt around the theme of the Lonely Wanderer in Ripon Cathedral. “It’s vital that students have the opportunity to listen to live music by top rate musicians,” explained Concert Society Chairman Roger Higson.

“So we are extending an invitation to all secondary schools to encourage their music students to come for free.”

The Concert Society is also providing prizes to the winners at the Ripon Young Musicians of the Year competition on November 20-21 and at the Harrogate Competition for Music Speech and Drama next year, enabling the winners and their families to attend a concert of their choice.

The Cathedral Concert Society’s next concert features the Classic Buskers Christmas Crackers on December 6 at 3pm at the Ripon Spa Hotel.
