New Park Primary Academy on Skipton Road has sent out a letter to parents, informing those with children eligible for free school meals that it will be offering a £15 Aldi voucher per child to help with food costs over October half term.

The letter, sent by Headteacher Mr Robert Mold, reads: "I’m really proud that New Park is part of Northern Star Academies Trust; not only has it meant that we have been able to draw upon expertise from across a wide range of partner schools, but we’ve also received financial expertise and advice which has resulted in significant building improvements to the school.

"I’m proud to announce that NSAT has taken the morally correct decision to provide food vouchers to all children on Free School Meals over the half-term break. We will email every family with a £15 Aldi voucher per child. If your child does not currently receive free school meals but you think you may be eligible, please get in touch with the office right away."

Businesses and organisations across the country have been offering support for those struggling following yesterday's Government decision.

England and Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, who spearheaded the campaign for children to receive free school meals during the holidays, has been sharing posts from those offering food parcels, free meals and vouchers to families.

One of these includes Harrogate's Portofino restaurant on Albert Street, which has said it will be offering free hot meals for children next week and delivering essential food parcels.
