Rudding Park reveals latest plans for spa

Rudding Park Hotel has unveiled plans for a new luxury spa.

The award-winning hotel was first given planning permission for a new spa building in the grounds of the 4-star hotel in 2008, but have now submitted new designs.

Peter Banks, managing director of Rudding Park said he hopes to recapture Harrogate’s spa heritage with the new development, and added that the hotel is exploring the option of using a water bore in the 300 acres of parkland.

He said: “We applied for permission for the spa at the same time as an extension to the hotel, and we opted to carry out the extension work first in 2009.

“I am pleased we didn’t build as this latest plan is so fantastic.”

Rudding Park’s spa currently has four treatment rooms, whereas the new spa facility would accommodate 10 treatment rooms, a swimming pool and restaurant.

Mr Banks said: “It is a really beautiful, low impact building. It will have a roof garden and be made with the same stone as the main hotel.”

Due to a dip in the land and the roof garden the building is designed to blend in with the surroundings. The swimming pool area will boast a glass wall to take in the views of the rolling countryside surrounding the hotel.

Mr Banks explained that the spa break market is big business and extremely important to luxury hotels.

He said: “Absolutely it is a growing area, at the moment destination spas are vital to the industry. If you don’t have a spa, hotels will be relegated.

People travel from al over the country to go to these types of spas.”

He added: “As with everything we do it will be done to our particular standard. It will be fantastic and will be another tourist attraction for Harrogate.”

Last year Swinton Park Hotel near Ripon revealed their plans for an innovative spa complex and The Flaxby hotel which is currently being built near Knaresborough will also boast a luxury spa complex.
