New shop opens in Knaresborough and it is good news for pork pie fans

A new butcher's was launched today, Tuesday, in the Market Place.

Appleton’s say they are delighted to be opening their fifth shop and creating new employment opportunities in the process.

And owner Anthony Sterne said he hope that people would continue to shop local and support local businesses.

Mr Sterne said: “We are so excited to have joined the Knaresborough community and thank local residents for their patience whilst we have redeveloped the shop.

"It’s disappointing that social distancing didn’t allow us to have a big launch event after four years of renovating the premises, but we hope to hold one later in the year.”

But local residents were treated to a discount to mark the opening at 46 Market Place.

The arrival of Appleton's makes it the third butcher's in the centre of Knaresborough, joining the well-established Hutton's at Castlegate and Wilkinson's on the High Street.

It is the fifth Appleton’s shop, joining their existing stores in Ripon, Wetherby, York and Boroughbridge.

Founded in Ripon in 1867, Appleton’s are best-known for their handmade pork pies, which have locals queuing round the market square.

Appleton’s specialises in pork products like cured whole hams, sausage rolls, Scotch eggs, faggots and cooked meats such as roast ham.

The team at Appleton’s have continued to service their customers from all shops throughout the pandemic, making all their famous goods by hand, ready to bake onsite.
