New craft beer bar for Harrogate opens this weekend

The trend towards independent craft pubs combining traditional styling with new world beer policies continues apace this week with news of a new development from the team behind a famous Harrogate nightclub.

Ten Devonshire Place located off Skipton Road not far from Swan on The Stray, will see one of the town’s oldest pubs completely transformed when it opens this Saturday.

It’s the work of brothers Steve and Andi Aikman who, famously, took the Old Bourbon on King’s Road in Harrogate and turned it into the town’s most popular nightclub of the 1990s - Jimmys.

Having bought this Kings Road venue in 1993 and then sold it on in 1998 at the peak of its popularity, the Aikmans moved into boutique food and beverage.

Their latest project sees them reinterpret the current microbrewery revolution and blend it with their flair for creating nights out.

Formerly the Devonshire Arms, the building has been painstakingly restored to utilise all the original features. It will re-emerge as a traditional ale house with a fresh range of craft beers from around the world - plus the usual array of ciders and wines.

Andi said: “The Devonshire is a great old building that needed restoring. The ‘proper pub; scene is really starting to thrive and we hope we can add to some already great pubs around here.”

The new bar will also host acoustic evenings, vinyl-only DJ sets, wine tasting evenings, food events, quizes and board games.

The official opening night will take place on Saturday, November 22.
