Wonderful, wonderful day as musical is staged

Members of the Deanery Players will be going courtin' for their next production.

The Harrogate company presents the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at Harrogate Theatre from Thursday March 22 to Saturday March 24.

Seven Brides is one of the great Hollywood musicals of the 1950s. It starred Howard Keel and Jane Powell.

It tells the story of Millie, who falls in love with Adam Pontipee, marries him and then discovers he lives with his six brothers and she is expected to cook, clean and run their home for them.

Millie’s plan to marry off the brothers provides the plot for the show and before the predictable happy-ending, there are moments of laughter, excitement and romance.

The score includes Going Courtin’, Bless Your Beautiful Hide, Wonderful, Wonderful Day and Spring, Spring, Spring.

“Since we announced the show there has been tremendous interest in our production. Everyone has a special memory of the film, especially the barn social dance,” said Kath Lunn, of the Players.
