For those who enjoy sporting celebrities speaking openly and honestly, next week’s Sporting Truths charity event at Harrogate’s Royal Hall is a ‘must-see’ event.
Jointly organised by football pundit and ex-England player Danny Mills and Harrogate Theatre, next Thursday night’s event promises a fundraising evening of sport, comedy and debate in aid of Shine and Harrogate Theatre Trust.
The evening will kick off at 8pm with comedian and BBC Radio 5 Live regular and festival favourite Ian Moore, after which members of the celebrity panel lock horns to debate some of the key issues affecting the world of sport.
Joining Mills himself will be Match of the Day 2’s Mark Chapman, Mark Lawrenson, Darren Fletcher, Nigel Martyn, Josie Pearson MBE, Colin Cooper, Neil Sullivan, Paul Dickov, Pat Nevin and Dermot Gallagher.
The audience can expect a welter of serious points amid the laughter.
Mills, former rightback with Leeds Utd and Manchester City among others, hopes Sporting Truths will reveal the shocking truths behind the scenes at the top level of sport.
He said: “The sporting world is of such high intensity that you have to be able to compete as a top athlete at the highest level.
“This means you’ll do almost anything – even if it involves pushing the boundaries of fair play.”
The proceeds will go to partly to Harrogate Theatre Trust’s ongoing restoration campaign and partly to Shine, the spina bifida charity he has supported since the death of his third child Archie from the condition four months into his wife Lisa’s pregnancy in 2002
