It's a mighty long way from Nashville to Harrogate but Kenny Foster looks right at home on the small stage in The Clubhouse.

Located upstairs in an offshoot of Cold Bath Brewing Co bar, the professional songwriter puts on a masterclass in how to make the most of a spotlight, an acoustic guitar and a voice.

His long blondeish hair and blue denim says this talented musician hails more from the more rock n roll side of the world capital of country music - and easy on the saccharine.

As well as his set of original material; he does write 150 songs a year, after all, he throws in little snippets of classic songs by the likes of The Who and Pink Floyd.

Not all of his own songs live up to such a high standard but quite a few come close.

In particular, the superb City Girl/Country Heart and We Got Caught stand out for their assured blend of pathos and pith.

Blessed with integrity, independent spirit and a great voice, this major coup for Harrogate and Cold Bath Brewing Co happens just a week before a major London show starring the Rolling Stone magazine-rated Foster.

Mind you, musical talent aside, the likable Missouri-born Foster with his impressive mix of heart and head could get by on sheer charm alone.
