The Harrogate Operatic Players are now well under way with rehearsals for their summer show Oklahoma! with a talented new leading lady.
The show, directed and choreographed by Mike Kirkby, is a classic musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play Green Grow the Lilacs, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first musical is the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams and features well-loved classics such as Oh What A Beautiful Morning, I Can’t Say No and, of course, the show’s rollicking title song.
HOPs are delighted to introduce the beautiful and very talented Mollie Targett who will play their leading lady - Laurey Williams.
Mollie has recently graduated from the University of Huddersfield with a BA degree in Drama and is hoping to continue her career in musical theatre.
At only 21, she has both enjoyed success in shows whilst studying, ranging from We will Rock You, Guys and Dolls to Grease and Hairspray.
Mollie said: “I’m completely loving playing Laurey and really enjoy working with such a talented cast and production team. It’s my first show with HOPs, but , hopefully , it won’t be my last.”
To support her studies, Mollie has enjoyed working for local events and entertainment company, Make A Wish Entertainment performing as different characters.
She’s also working with Stagecoach as a singing teacher.
l Oklahoma! runs at the Harrogate Theatre from Wednesday, June 11 to Saturday, June 14.
