A TRUE rock veteran of the Harrogate scene, albeit a very different scene, Paul Kettley brings back one of the area’s most enduring covers band MFOR to The Alexandra in Harrogate next Thursday, March 15.
Expect a big set of mighty rock and pop covers, recent and older.
STILL rockin’. . .the rumbustious rocker Pseudonympho have unleashed their debut video.
Called Pathetic Island Fallacy on Bunnysnot Records (the last bit’s the label, I think, not part of the song title), check it out on YouTube now, it rocks!
TALKING of rock, though prog rock this time, Tim Hunter’s ProgYesFestival in Knaresborough this September has added French prog band Silver Lining to the bill for the weekend.
Described as a fabulous symphonic prog rock band, if you want to know more about the festival, there’s a free Android app ProgDroid available which brings ProgYes info direct to your phone.
Otherwise, visit www.yorview.co.uk for more info where you can find how to buy an early bird ticket for the whole weekend costing a non-gatefold sleeve, non-triple concept album price of £17.50.
“I’M going undergrow-ow-ownd – pow, pow pow!” Whoops, wrong song (The Jam) and wrong type of music.
The underground that’s going on in Harrogate next Friday, March 16, is the dance scene – and the pow, pow, pow will be coming from the qWRq collective who intend to bring the underground sounds of Berlin, Detroit, New York and Chicago to Retro basement bar on Commercial Street.
There’s a great line-up for this free, truly alternative event with residents LUV*JAM and DJ George Looney and guest DJs waFF and sOna sound.
More next week.
TALKING about dance. . .the latest Dragonate Festival Warm-Up night has a Dubstep theme. Appearing tonight at Vanilla Café bar (ex-Crabtrees) in Harrogate from 9.30pm-4am will be DJs CGi, Snuff, Mr Wicker and Urbanizer. Check it out.
AND sticking with dance. . .Harrogate’s own beats/electronica legends 601 (which means they’ve been going a long time and are still doing well, basically) have been producing a string of hit releases for the likes of Aquasky’s Passenger label on the 140 bass scene. The boys are currently unveiling a new three-track EP on Sub Slayers (website, radio show, free downloads etc – check it out) including Raise It Up, Lion Dubs and Rage.
Plenty going on in the jungle, it seems.
THE Viper Rooms in Harrogate has a series of top tribute acts live every Friday this month.
Tonight, Friday, it’s the turn of The Cheatles (on stage at 11.45pm) with the likes of Amy Winehouse and Take That to follow.
For free VIP tickets, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Check it out.
