A PARADE through the town centre will mark the start of the Harrogate International Youth Festival this weekend – for the first time in four years.

Scores of performers will take to the streets of Harrogate tomorrow, Saturday, four years after the parade was cancelled because of a dispute over policing.

But at 11am tomorrow, the parade will begin on Victoria Avenue before travelling down West Park and into the centre of town, thanks to support from Knaresborough Lions and the Rotary Club of Harrogate.

Last weekend, as a prelude to the festival which runs until next Thursday, April 12, dancers from the Katrina Hughes School of Dance and Performing Arts showcased their talents with musical numbers from Hairspray in the town centre while sporting the festival’s logo.

Festival director Alison Wardrop commented: “Our thanks go to the Katrina Hughes dancers for setting off the 2012 event in such fantastic style.

“We hope it gave the people of Harrogate a taster of what they can expect and that they will join us tomorrow for the parade to welcome our local talent and international guests.”
