Harrogate Operatic Players’ leading ladies are performing their new show this week with a sellout run in prospect
Taking place in the beautiful Sun Pavilion in Harrogate, Serenade will be a popular cabaret style show with songs from both the stage and screen.
One of HOP’s most familiar leading ladies, Christine Littlewood, notonly has a key role on stage this time, she is also directing the show.
Christine joined Harrogate Operatic Players in 1975 and has performed in productions every year since then.
She has taken a succession of principal roles, most recently the Mother Abbess in Sound of Music and Mrs Harcourt in Anything Goes.
Alongside being a playing member, Christine has also taken an active role in the running of the society.
She was chairman of the executive committee for nine years and is now working on the social and fundraising committee.
Working alongside Christine, it’s a welcome back Joanne Harrison who has also performed with the Harrogate Operatic Players for many years.
Jo said: “I became a member of HOPs for the first time aged eight and appeared twice as a child performer in Hans Christian Andersen and Fiddler on the Roof.”
Jo started ballet classes at four-years-old and continued dancing throughout her school years, taking up tap and modern dance at a later date along the way.
She followed the RAD and ISTD systems of examination during this time, then, after leaving school, gained a first class BA honours degree in Dance.
Although Jo now works as a freelance assistant director in TV and film on shows like Absolutely Fabulous, and is frequently away from home with work, she has still managed to squeeze in a few performances with the Operatic’s over recent years!
Serenade plays at the Sun Pavilion from Monday, November 25 to Saturday, November 30.
Evening performances at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
