Visually spectacular, as you’d expect from flamboyant director Baz Luhrmann, the fifth film adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s classis novel set in the decadent 1920s is the best to date. Not the most accurate, you understand, but likable lead actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan give it a heart. it’s currently number two in the UK cinema box office charts.

The second instalemt of JJ Abrams’ youthful update of Captain Kirk and co has far too much action, though it is spectacular, and not enough good lines for chief ‘baddie’ Benedict Cumberbatch.
