The Royal Hall Restoration Trust has unveiled its latest big name as it seeks to continue improvements to this iconic venue.
Trustees are delighted to announce a new fundraising show in October starring Ken Dodd.
The legendary 85-year-old comic will bring his Happiness Show to the Royal Hall on Thursday, October 31.
The fundraising event follows the huge success of the restoration trust’s Beatles 50th anniversary show at the Royal Hall in March.
Liverpudlian Dodd is currently celebrating nearly 60 years of happiness and laughter, having become a professional entertainer in 1954.
Just a little over 10 years later, he made his debut at the famous London Palladium – where he enjoyed an unprecedented record breaking 42 week sell-out season!
On television and radio he’s enjoyed his own series, been honoured in a special one-hour This Is Your Life tribute, and his hugely successful and award-winning An Audience With Ken Dodd TV special (and sell-out video), was followed with the equally successful Another Audience With Ken Dodd and The Ken Dodd Live Laughter Tour.
All have become best selling videos which have earned him platinum and double platinum awards.
Dodd’s visit is the work of Barbara Simpson, the well known entertainer and local resident who is a close friend of Ken Dodd.
Barbara has worked numerous times with Ken Dodd and then in later years she booked him for many shows that she organised.
The veteran star’s live show is much about musical entertainent as the spoken word.
Dodd’s string of hits include Love Is Like A Violin and his signature tune Happiness.
Singing plays a prominent part in his stage act, and his amazing vocal range includes everything from the classics to pop music and even grand opera! Famously, in 1965 he removed his fellow Merseysiders The Beatles (then at the peak of their popularity) from No.1 spot in the pop charts with Tears and today it occupies 10th place in the Top 20 best-selling records of all time.
Tickets for his special show are on sale at the Harrogate Theatre Box Office. Tel 01423 502116.
