There will be live music in Harrogate this weekend as nightlife begins to return to some semblance of normality after lockdown.

Harrogate’s newish Fashion House Bistro, for example. has line-up of musicians every Thursday and Sunday.

FHB owner David Dresser said: “For more than four months there have been no live performances of any kind, and I’m delighted that we are now hosting music performances twice a week, on Sundays and Thursdays.

“While Chris White (vocals) and Martin Long (piano) will be with us regularly on Sundays, we have different artists appearing each Thursday.

"All are fantastic musicians in their own rights and we are looking forward to welcoming them, and lovers of live music, to The Fashion House Bistro."

Next Thursday, August 27 sees Leeds singer-song writer Hayley Gaftarnick making her FHB debut, playing two sets of soul, jazz and reggae.

On Thursday, September 3, it’s the turn of Phil Swale to take to the FHB stage. He is a live acoustic guitar/vocal performer with 20 years’ experience and performs acoustic covers of various genres, from the 60s to the present day.

The following Thursday, September 10, is the turn of Waybourne Chester Bingley, a versatile acoustic performer with one foot in the transatlantic folk tradition, and the other firmly planted on the modern European troubadour circuit.

Meanwhile, at Harrogate's Blues Bar on Montpellier Hill, normally the cornerstone of the town's live music scene, the first live musician to play since lockdown will be blues man Howlin Mat tonight Saturday, August 22.

In keeping with Government guidance, the Blues Bar is taking a cautious approach, introducing table booking and putting firm safety rules in place.

Owner Simon Colgan said there will be a screen in the bar's upstairs room to watch the music live downstairs.

Mr Colgan said: "Live music is starting again inside the Blues Bar now that the Government is allowing it.

"But we will be adhering to social distance rules.

"We will be taking table bookings for both downstairs and upstairs, where customers can watch the live music on a screen and hear it through the PA."
