Over the last year, multiple UK lockdowns have seen a growth in focus on self-discovery, reinvention and exploring the science of the world around us.

As the ‘go to cultural series’ in the North, Harrogate’s own Berwins Salon North has always been at the forefront of these ideas.

January will see it offer the perfect tonic to the post-American election and current lockdown blues.

Presented by Harrogate International Festivals, this month's Salon will feature not three but four world-class speakers, whose 30-minute slots are designed to make the audience sit up, take notice and even question their own lifestyles.

Beaming in to join host Helen Bagnall will be British philosopher, journalist and author Julian Baggini who will focus on ‘A Short History of Truth; psychologists Prof James Danckert and John Eastwood who will examine ‘The Psychology of Boredom’; and freelance journalist Lauren Bravo will champion the cause for ‘How To Break Up With Fast Fashion’.

Sponsored by Harrogate law firm, Berwins, and produced by Harrogate International Festivals, the online event will be streamed on the HIF player from Thursday, January 28.

Lizzie Brewster, Head of Development & Comms at Harrogate International Festivals, said: “We are starting 2021 the same way as we finished 2020, by delivering Berwins Salon North directly into the homes of our audiences.”

“Berwins Salon North is about discovery. By going digital we’re creating an opportunity to escape being pinpointed by algorithms, and endless Zoom meetings, and instead we’re bringing the power of the arts and culture into lockdown, opening up the possibility of new knowledge, new ideas and new imaginations.”

“As with every single Harrogate International Festivals event over the last year, Berwins Salon North is completely free to enjoy online, breaking down barriers to access, and welcoming audiences from across the UK to our digital community.”
