Keeping flag flying for Harrogate music with live streamed events

For music fans in Harrogate at a loose end there's news that the town's music scene isn't hibernating, it's simply moved online to digital streaming.

Among several Harrogate music events coming up are live digital sessions courtesy of Six Poor Folk in Knaresborough, a Vinyl Sessions in Harrogate about REM, and a local DJs festival on Harrogate Community Radio.

Rickie DH live event​

For two nights running, Harrogate DJ Rickie Hurlstone, a big name in the Leeds clubbing scene and director of West Yorkshire’s Reach festival, will perform live to allow people to have a dance and engage with crowds all from home.

The RickieDH live event show, which has a potential audience reach of more than 800,000 on social media, aims to raise at least £5,000 for the front line heroes of the NHS through a JustGiving page.

The show will start at 7pm on both nights.

Vinyl Sessions, which fundraises for Friends of Harrogate Hospital & Harrogate Healthcare NHS Trust, will digital stream an event about REM's Automatic for the People.

Vinyl Sessions organiser Colin Paine said: "In these challenging and worrying times we all face lets try a few smiles with online events.

"After some serious spadework the Vinylsessions team are delighted to announce the first online Vinyl Sessions next Wednesday.

"Our platforms are in place, our regular team are ready to roll and the audio will be coming live on vinyl."

The fun starts at 7.30pm with Vinyl Session's regular 'Professor of Pop' , Graham Chalmers of the Harrogate Advertiser, who will be taking about REM's 23 million-selling 1992 album Automatic for the People.

The whole classic album will be played on vinyl from Vinyl Sessions' HQ with a video created by Jim Dobbs and some well-known bonus tracks.

To join this online event, music fans need to book at Eventbrite.

A few hours before the event, attendees will receive a second email from Eventbrite with a link to the Zoom meeting.

Click the link and install the free software or app for Zoom.

A second link will take you to the HQ audio, please follow instructions. Attendee video and audio will be muted but a live chat will take place with organisers.

Booking is the only way to join these events.

Names including Rory Hoy, DJ Trev, , Rufus Beckett, Mike Atkinson, Diesel Keys, DJ Scooby, Graham Chalmers of the Harrogate Advertiser, Moon On A Stick, Jonny Skinner and Andy from Harrogate Community Radio will take part from 1pm to 6pm.

Nationally-renowned, Knaresborough-based DJ Rory Hoy's bestselling 2018 publication, The Little Big Beat Book has just been reissued as a Kindle eBook on New Haven Publishing.

The original book made number one on the Amazon Dance Music book charts, overtaking Neil Tennant from The Pet Shop Boys.

A Bookazine edition The Story of Big Beat came out in 2019.
