The tiny label's founder Jason Hodgson said: "I'm absolutely gutted that we missed out on number one, which went to Hayley Williams of Paramore with a single that people had ordered in December.

"It's annoying how the rules work. If her delay had been one week in either direction we'd have had the #1!

"Still, looking at the top five, we're the only indie in a sea of multi-billion $ majors."

In late 2017, he saw Rock Remembers Rick, a 7” EP he released in memory of late music legend Rick Parfitt of Status Quo, hit number two in the official charts for physical singles.

The label’s current release Lockdown, a riff-heavy, word-of-mouth hit, has won air time on national radio, notched up more than 150,000 video views and topped Classic Rock magazine’s prestigious Tracks of the Week poll.

Paired with No Return, the new single recalls the authentic, no-nonsense rocking sound of mid-70s Quo with a line-up including John Coghlan (drums), Mick Hughes (guitar, vocals), Rick Chase (bass, vocals) and Pete Mace (guitar, vocals).

A limited edition double A-side CD single, Lockdown is available from www.musicglue.com/squidger.
