Genesis classic to star in Harrogate Vinyl Sessions event this week

The event this Wednesday, August 19 will look at Genesis's classic album Selling England By The Pound, which was first released in 1973.

The band's fourth album (fifth, if you include their very early From Genesis to Revelation released with a different line-up in 1968).

It reached number three in the UK charts and No. 70 in the USA.

A single from the album, I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe), was released in February 1974 and became the band's first top 30 hit in the UK.

Since vintage hi-fi expert Colin Paine set it up more than two years ago, Vinyl Sessions has raised more than £13,000 for Friends of Harrogate Hospital charity.

Even when lockdown forced it to go online, it has still managed to raised more than £1,000.

The action will start at 7.30pm with organiser and hi fi expert Colin Paine, followed by a full profile from “Professor of Pop” Graham Chalmers of the Harrogate Advertiser along with some video action from Jim Dobbs during playback of the album in full about 8pmish.

After the vinyl playback of the album finishes, there may also be a trip to Amplifier Mike's Workshop!

Vinyl Sessions originally took place each month at Starling Independent Bar Cafe Kitchen in Harrogate.

Since it has gone digital during lockdown, online events have included Bob Dylan's Freewheelin Bob Dylan, REM'S Automatic For The People, Simple Minds' New Gold Dream, Paul McCartney & Wings' Band on the Run, Supertramp's Breakfast in America and ELO's Discovery.

Future Vinyl Sessions coming up will include Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and Ian Drury's New Boots & Panties.
