40th anniversary of The Clash and Harrogate event will pay tribute

Such is the standing of The Clash’s famous double album London Calling, it’s not only been released on the anniversary of its original release 40 years ago, it’s even the subject of an entire exhibition at the Museum of London.

Next Wednesday, December 4 will see Harrogate play its own tribute to The Clash (pictured), a punk band who surpassed the genre they helped create in the shape of the latest Vinyl Sessions event.

London Calling’s thrilling melting pot of styles will be replayed in its full glory on state-of-the-art, vintage hi-fi equipment at Starlings bar in Harrogate.

    The stunning 19 track collection’s socially-aware lyrics about the state of the nation may remain as pertinent today as when they were first written by The Clash’s charismatic frontman Joe Strummer in 1979 but London Calling remains an energy-filled, hugely enjoyable and positive listening experience.

    The event at 7.30pm will feature a talk by the Harrogate Advertiser’s Graham Chalmers.

    The period hi-fi is helmed by audio aficionado Colin Paine with a video show by Jim Dobbs.

    Tickets are free to reserve but there is a suggested donation of £5 to Friends of Harrogate Hospital Community charity.
