Storm Darcy brings snow again to Harrogate but will it be as bad as last time

The roads in Harrogate town centre were mostly normal this morning, though quiet, despite the snow showers, as this picture of Station Parade shows.

Motorists seemed to be heeding the warnings and the roads in the town centre on the way to work were quieter than normal for a Monday morning and traffic was progressing much more normally than previous cold snaps this year so far.

The main brunt of Storm Darcy is being felt by the East coast from Excess upwards

But there is an amber warning for snow in the East Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber until 2pm today, Monday.

The Harrogate district has a yellow warning for more snow on and off today.

Today's forecast for the area predicts the bitterly cold and brisk easterlies will continue to bring snow showers in from the North Sea.

Tonight will remain very cold and mostly cloudy with temperatures dropping to -2C, and there will still be some risk of snow flurries will during the night., though these will ease progressively.

On the whole, the severe conditions created by Storm Darcy are not expected to be as widespread as 2018's Beast from the East.

The Met Centre is forecasting a very cold week to come but with sunny intervals, rather than more snow.

Day-time temperatures will stay close to freezing all week with night-time ones falling as low as between -3C to -5C beore getting a little bit warmer by the weekend - but not much by much.
